Export Grant (EMDG)

Export Market Development Grant

The Export Market Development Grant (EMDG) scheme is a national program that reimburses businesses for a range of export market development promotional expenses.

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for emerging, aspiring and established exporters. It is administered by Austrade and supports a wide range of industries.

EMDG Submissions open each year from July onward

The EMDG scheme:

  • encourages small and medium-sized Australian businesses to develop export markets
  • reimburses up to 50 % of eligible export promotion expenses above $5,000 provided total expenses are at least $15,000
  • provides up to eight (8) grants to an eligible applicant

Expenses incurred within a financial year can be claimed between July to November, (except your first application, which can include expenses from the two financial years immediately prior to a first application)

To be eligible, the business must have:

  • income less than $50 million
  • incurred at least $15,000 of eligible expenses in developing export sales
  • hold principal status for the export product/service (exceptions apply for non-profit export-focused industry bodies)

EMDG supports reimbursement across eight (8) categories of export market promotional activities. View the Video in the right hand column and see Austrade’s EMDG-In-Brief (PDF) publication for full details on all claimable expenses by category. See EMDG at a glance (PDF) for an overview of the scheme
